Our Story
Since 1982, Jim Schantz has contributed to the Studio Glass Movement, with his experience as an art director, and owner as well as from the perspective of an artist. Many of the artists represented and supported by the physicality of the gallery are good friends. Schantz organizes tours and visits to artist's studios, and has curated exhibitions at the gallery, art expositions, and museums. In 2014, Jim curated a group glass exhibition at the New Britain Museum of Art, Contemporary Glass: 21st Century Innovations. Schantz has co-curated three other major museum exhibitions for Lino Tagliapietra, which include the Montgomery Museum, Montgomery, AL. (2018), the Morris Museum, Morristown, NJ. (2017) and the Bergstrom Mahler Museum, Neenah, WI. (2015), and in 2019 a group exhibition of New England artists at the Worcester Craft Center.
The gallery works with private individuals and corporate clients on small and large scale architectural installations.
Over the years, we have been able to support the artists whose work we represent through sales of their art, publications, and exhibitions. We believe that the arts economy is an important part of both the local and world economy and a true reflection on our times. Some of the non-profit institutions we have supported include:
Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass Berkshire Bank Relay for Life Berkshire County Kids’ Place Berkshire Fringe Berkshire Museum Berkshire Taconic - BECreative Fund) Fairview Hospital Feeding America Flint Institute of the Arts Freedman Center Fuller Craft Museum Glass Art Society Glass Roots Go Fund Me - various artists support Housatonic River Initiative Housatonic Valley Association James Renwick Alliance JDRF Seattle Literacy Network MCGG Museum of Fine Arts MIT Glass Lab Morris Museum Museum of Glass Museum of Northwest Art Pilchuck Glass School RiverKeeper Save the Children State Police Association Stockbridge Fire Department Tanglewood/BSO The Ocean Conserancy Tufts Urban Glass Western MA Food Bank
As those familiar with the region are already well aware, the Berkshires boast some world-class museums, with Chesterwood, The Clark, Mass MoCA and the Norman Rockwell Museum being standouts in particular.
